The Earth’s most abundant energy source is the sun, providing free and readily available solar energy globally during daylight hours. Efficiently harnessing this energy is crucial for generating usable power on a large scale. Presently, the top Mono Crystalline solar cells can convert up to 23% of input solar energy into DC output power, while typical PV cells have an efficiency ranging from 17% to 18%.
Each Solar Farm comprises a series of Solar Panels designed to generate power for larger communities. IoT sensors capture temperature and incident solar irradiance on the panels, allowing the calculation of theoretical DC Power Output. Additionally, the actual DC Power Output from the panel is electrically measured using this information.
Dashboard
- Solar Farm Map Locations: This section displays monitored Solar Farms, providing an overview of the previous day's DC and AC output, alerts for panel efficiency degradation, and high ambient temperatures. Selecting a farm marker loads analytical data for that farm.
- Edge Data Collection: Farm-level sensors capture average ambient temperature, triggering alerts if it exceeds the threshold. Alerts are also sent for low DC output power compared to the ideal level. All panel and farm parameters are collected and stored in the cloud database.
- Remote Monitoring: Real-time data allows remote panel monitoring, identifying issues through alerts. Irreversibly damaged panels are flagged for replacement in the next maintenance window.
- Preventive Maintenance: Real-time warnings reduce turnover time for issue rectification, minimizing downtimes. Periodic maintenance is planned based on historical panel performance, optimizing personnel and reducing overall maintenance costs.
- Actual Vs Ideal Productivity: Admins assess Solar Farm productivity, identifying gaps between ideal and actual output. Drill-down analysis reveals reasons for low efficiency, considering factors like weather, sunlight irradiance, and panel temperature.
